Change the world by being yourself
Founded by artist Amy Poehler and producer Meredith Walker, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls organization is dedicated to helping young people cultivate their authentic selves. We emphasize intelligence and imagination over “fitting in.” We celebrate curiosity over gossip. We are a place where people can truly be their weird and wonderful selves. We are funny first, and informative second, hosting the party you want to attend.
Amy is also a humanitarian, active in women’s issues and serves as Ambassador for the Worldwide Orphans Foundation. On screen and off, Amy believes in empowering women and girls everywhere. Her dedication to helping young women has gained her numerous accolades, including Glamour’s Woman of the Year. Through her digital series Smart Girls at the Party, Amy continues to acknowledge and support girls who are “changing the world by being themselves.”
Meredith now serves as Executive Director of the organization she co-created, “Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls.” Headquartered in Austin, Texas, she devotes her time to all things Smart Girls. By leading workshops, service days, and Smart Girls volunteer teams, she makes sure that the mission of Smart Girls is around the globe and in the real world. Every call-to-action on our site has been inspired by Meredith and there’s never a time we ask our audience to do something she hasn’t done first. She is constantly on the road as Smart Girls #1 spokeswoman, spreading the word.
Amy is the third amigo of Smart Girls, and has been involved in the musical content since the beginning. She has acted as a musical sidekick, hosted and produced Meow Meow Music and, of course, she wrote the "Smart Girls Have More Fun" anthem. Currently, Amy is working on a kids record and is living in Brooklyn with her husband and 3-year-old son Murray.
