What President Trump’s budget means for women
Today the Administration released its first budget and as usual, women and their families are taking the hit. We are not, and cannot, be a group of people that sits idly by and accepts a budget plan that puts so many people in harm’s way.
Here’s why:
This budget both cuts billions from Medicaid, once again leaving quality, affordable health care just out of reach for the people who need it the most, and offers up a smoke and mirrors paid family leave plan that only protects the rights of new parents, even though more than 75 percent of the people who need protected leave time need it to care for a sick loved one.
It cuts programs that allow young people to afford higher education opportunities and programs like Meals on Wheels that feed more than 2 million seniors every year. It cuts programs for people with disabilities, funding for scientific research, and it directly targets Planned Parenthood’s ability to provide critical health services to millions of Americans. Simply put, this budget is an attack on this country’s most vulnerable while offering the wealthy a pretty hefty tax break.
By and large, women and their families have so much to lose if this budget is passed. But I know you’re ready to step up and do everything in your power to make sure that doesn’t happen.
So grateful to have you on this team.
Talk soon,
Jordan
