Jason Reitman, director of JUNO, has decided to re-introduce his popular live-read events as part of resisting the ongoing attacks made on women’s rights by the new administration. So in honor of JUNO’s upcoming tenth anniversary he is organizing an all female live read of the script happening on April 8th in Los Angeles. It’s unfortunately a one-night only performance but with all funds raised going directly to Planned Parenthood, it’s absolutely one of the most admirable ways to celebrate this ten year mark. Jason Reitman, told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview, “Like many other people, I felt like I wanted to do something. I wanted to find a way to contribute to the causes that have never felt more important.”

We at Smart Girls are so thrilled that Reitman is using his platform to be such a strong ally to women. We also could not be more excited that Jennifer Garner and Ellen Page will be reprising their original roles but we also cannot wait to hear who is announced to fill in for the male characters. Keep checking Reitman’s Twitter as further details get revealed.

If you will be in Los Angeles on April 8th you can find tickets here and there will also be some JUNO memorabilia for sale at the event with those proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood as well.

Now more than ever it’s important to combine pop culture with accessible ways to take action against what is unjust, which is exactly what Reitman aims to do in celebrating JUNO’s milestone.

“It occurred to me that I have this show that could be used as a tool to not only raise money for causes that need the help, but could serve as an opportunity for a group like Planned Parenthood to connect with an audience who can be presented with new ideas, or even an action item.”

We couldn’t agree more Jason! Thanks for making this happen!
