August 15th is the five-year anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which along with a program called Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has impacted the lives of over 1 million immigrant youth.

DACA protects over 800,000 youth who came to the United States when they were children from being deported. This program also allows them to gain an education and a work permit.

Because of the DACA program, many undocumented immigrant youth have had the opportunities to improve their lives over the past five years.

Here are some statistics on DACA recipients:

  • 95% are working or in school
  • 48% got a job with better working conditions
  • 90% got a driver’s license or state ID

But DACA is in danger of being killed by the Trump administration and it could happen as soon as September 5th! August 15th is the National Day of Action to Defend DACA. This is the time to mobilize and show up. There are many Americans who support DACA and this is your chance to use your voice to show support for this important program and the youth that have benefitted from the program.

Ready? Here are a few ways you can act on August 15th:

  • Join the march in Washington, D.C. outside the White House at 11:30 am to defend DACA.
  • Not in DC? Go to DefendDACA.com and find out where there will be an event near you!
  • Contact (call, fax, or tweet!) your representatives urging them to publicly make a statement in support of DACA.
  • Join in the Twitter storm at 10:30 am PT / 1:30 pm ET using the hashtags #DefendDACA #DefendDREAMers #HereToStay

This is your opportunity to take a stand and show support for the families who through DACA have been able to improve their lives. So make sure to join in on August 15th to Defend DACA and protect immigrant youth.

Visit DefendDACA.com for more information and to find an event near you. Plus, don’t forget to follow along and signal boost using the #DefendDACA hashtag on August 15th!
