Which living person do you most admire?
My grandma, Shirley! She is 91-years-old and lived in New York City until she was 90. When she was young, she loved singing and dancing and in her adult life she worked everyday at a job she loved — as a secretary to a rabbi (who, as she tells it, had handwriting so bad only she could read it). She was proficient in stenography and recorded multiple books the rabbi wrote. She makes the best latkes and matzo ball soup I have ever tasted. Some of my favorite memories growing up are of eating her food on the Jewish holidays.

What non-practical talent would you most like to have?
It would be pretty awesome to have a crazy powerhouse voice like Christina Aguilera or something. But I wouldn’t call that non-practical as obviously you can turn it into a very successful career. I guess I don’t think any talents are non-practical; if your talent doesn’t become your career it can at the very least be a hobby that makes you happy and that seems pretty practical to me!

What lights you up?
My husband, John, and my dog, Petunia. And french fries.

Tell us about a time you were most scared and how you overcame it:
I was very scared to move into my new house. It was built in the 20’s which meant the chances of it being haunted seemed VERY HIGH. I really didn’t want to move into a house, have a The Conjuring situation, and then need to move out. What a hassle. I’d lived in apartments since I was eighteen, so if I heard weird noises, I could blame it on my neighbors. If weird things happen in a stand alone house, you are straight up being haunted. So, my first day there I went through the whole house with burning sage and you better believe I cleansed every single corner of every room. I also had a conversation with any spirits that may have still been living there. It went like this: Hi Ghosts! I’m not sure if you are there or not, but I need you to know that I live in this house now. If you are a nice, friendly ghost feel free to hang here, just please don’t do anything at night that creeps me out. I would really appreciate it if you would lay low. If you are an evil spirit, BE GONE AND NEVER COME BACK! I have to say my house feels pretty ghost-free.

What do you think should every woman know how to do?
Stand up for herself. And a solid cat eye.

If you could inspire your younger self to do one thing, what would it be?
To be honest, I was a pretty badass child. I was a pint-sized anarchist with a mild authority problem who wore crazy outfits to get a rise out of people. That phase of my young self needed no inspiring! My younger self I would really like to go back and have a talk with though would be Anna ages 15–20. I would inspire myself to not be so serious. I really had the weight of the world on my shoulders during that time because I thought everything that was happening was so important. I realized later it wasn’t! I became a totally different person with different friends and different interests. What I thought my career would be changed completely. Basically those years don’t matter, so DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!! Just kidding. They matter, but not in the way you think they do.

What’s one challenge you would like to tackle in the next year?
I’m kind of messy and I would like to be neater. I leave shoes and sweatshirts and other things all over the place. My husband calls them my “piles.” I really have no excuse for not putting this stuff away, but sometimes it’s just really hard to fold a shirt and put it in your closet, right? When you could just leave it on the couch or kitchen counter, right? Anyway, that’s what I plan to tackle this year: getting rid of the piles. Wish me luck.

Thanks for sharing, Anna! We can’t wait to watch the premiere of your show on Tuesday, September 29th. For now, let’s get spooky in the comments!
