We’ve stressed many times the importance of getting involved in politics — whether it’s planning a rally, canvassing for a candidate, or becoming a precinct chair, getting involved in what’s happening locally is an important part of being a Smart Girl. And now, there’s another way to get your voice heard— by texting your representatives!

A new website called ResistBot will take your text messages and fax them to your representatives. Seriously! Concerned with an upcoming bill? Want to urge your Senators to take action? You can text ResistBot what you want the message to say and it will be faxed to your representatives so they know what you, their constituent, is concerned with.

Okay, it’s really easy. Just text the word “Resist” to 50409. You’ll get a nice message asking for the name you’d like to sign your letter with and your zip code.

Then, the bot will find your Congressmen — or in my case, women!

The bot will ask for your message to your representatives, which you can send sentence by sentence if you want. Take your time and don’t worry — there’s no limit to the length of your message. Once you’re done, the bot will read back the message and ask if you’re ready to fax. Don’t forget to use your manners with the bot!

The bot will then send you a photo of each letter and a confirmation once the fax has been sent. The whole process approximately took 5 minutes. So basically, there’s no excuse not to send messages to your representatives whenever you want to make sure they know where you stand on specific issues.

Not sure what to say? Don’t worry, you don’t have to get complicated. Your representatives just need to hear from you .

You don’t have to craft the perfect essay or message, just take this first step to make your voice heard on issues that matter to you. Over time, you’ll be able to send messages to your representatives in the House as well. So start sending those texts!
